programme overview
A more comprehensive curriculum designed for workers who will be learning to operate Class 3B and Class 4 lasers, or whose workplace uses these devices in its processing or services. With in-depth topics related to lasers, including laser modes of action, laser to target interactions, energy concepts, hazard controls, safe set-up, laser classifications and understanding light traits and reflection types for lasers. It explains how operators can protect themselves and others from the potential hazards that pose a risk to operators and those persons within the laser-controlled area. You will gain a better understanding of the role of the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) versus the person in charge of the business (PCBU). As such, this course is the set pre-requisite prior to training as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
ALL STAFF who are near or using a laser in the workplace should have a valid workplace Laser Safety Certificate as part of their Health & Safety induction training. The employer must ensure that any staff working near or operating Class 3B and Class 4 lasers are aware of the hazards and risks that could cause immediate or long-term health issues, including the risks associated with inhaling laser-generated airborne contaminants.
Outsourcing your education to an experienced and specialised provider can help reduce the risk of prosecution by Worksafe NZ and offer a better understanding of how Health and Safety Laws in New Zealand relate to lasers as a recognised workplace hazard.
