Laser Safety Training provides specialised online self-guided theory training certifications for anyone operating or working near Class 3B or Class 4 lasers. These high-power devices present extreme hazards, including permanent ocular injury, exposure to intense heat, potential inhaled bio-hazards, toxic laser-generated airbourne plume, and the potential for severe skin burns.
Compliance is mandatory. Under current Health & Safety Regulations, training on workplace hazard awareness is required to protect workers, mitigate operational risk, and establish comprehensive safety practices across all sectors.
The Laser Safety training we provide references AS/NZS Laser Safety Standards and or ANSI Laser Standards (USA), and/or other relevant sources. This ensures your workers are well aware of what risk their work with laser devices poses to them and others, it also teaches safety controls and what to have in place to protect themselves and others in the workplace.
We often find that the supplier of the laser device has not fully explained, or does not fully understand, the laser safety training required to meet industry standards. This includes ensuring your eyes are safe from the types of light lasers emit, and what is required for evidence to meet a WorkSafe Health & Safety Inspector site visit.

If you intend to work on any given laser situation, complete the Safe Use of Laser Certificate first.
If you ONLY intend to work with Laser Cleaners, complete the Laser Safety for Laser Cleaners first. (Note: the certificate will be issued to state this).

While we endeavour to accommodate the most commonly used laser types, we are not currently able to address every specific laser workplace or type; therefore, we provide generic, theory-based certification courses. All training provided is theoretical; certifications indicate that practical hands-on instruction may be necessary to attain full competence in the relevant tasks. LSO - Laser Safety Officer Training
The next step after completing the Safe Use of Lasers in the Workplace pre-requisite course is to have the Supervisors, Management or PCBU’s train as the nominated Laser Safety Officer, or LSO.
A knowledgeable laser safety expert is an advantage, as they can answer questions from your workers, managers, and executive team.
For health and safety management of workplaces with powerful lasers that can cause fires, notifiable skin burns, blindness, or significant damage, having a well-trained Laser Safety Officer (LSO) is essential.
This person will act as an officer to advise the PCBU (person in charge of business and undertaking), directly reducing risk, keeping workers safe, and implementing, monitoring, and revising safety protocols, procedures, and policies related to the safe use of the laser in your company.

AS/NZS Laser Safety Standards state that anyone using a Class 3B or Class 4 laser SHALL have a trained LSO. Additionally, the Health & Safety Act 2015 makes mention of ‘Officers’ who are people that hold specialised skills and knowledge; they advise the PCBU to reduce their risk of prosecution. Laser is a specialised field, and general Health & Safety trained persons are not necessarily aware of all the potential hazards and control measures. Having a nominated Laser Safety Officer (LSO) means that person can reduce risk and ensure the laser workplace is adhering to and avoiding potential issues under the law. This LSO certification will teach you what you need to manage high-power lasers, such as: you do not need a LSO at each site. It may make the most sense to have a single nominated LSO for the entire company, as it is not necessarily a full-time position, and then have deputy LSOs around the company’s locations. Those persons can carry out instructions and tasks as part of their normal roles, thereby incorporating the requirements related to laser safety.

As a requirement of AS/NZS laser safety standards, the back of the laser should have been marked with its classification label to state specifications and safety reasons.
It might be: Class 3B or Class 4, and should state the wavelength (nm), pulse range, and power range, along with any specifications unique to the device.
If your device is a Class 3B, and in particular a Class 4, you should have a trained Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
